The Ears Have It Too
OK – so I’m not very good at titles. Cut me some slack.
I have Covenant Eyes software installed on all 5 of our computers at home. Lisa and I receive reports from all the kids Internet activities and Lisa and my boss receive reports from my computer. It’s not that I have a problem in this area, I just want to make my surfing activities as transparent as possible. So this takes care of my eyes.
What about my ears?
On a 6 hour drive to Kentucky last week (and 6 hours back this week), I had a lot of time to pass so I plugged my iPod in and listened. I caught up on some podcasts I had been neglecting. I also played some music. I also listened to my 25 most played playlist.
Overall I expected most of the songs and artists on the list of 25. Lincoln Brewster, Caedmon’s Call, The Fray and David Crowder all get very high rotation on my iPod. Some of the songs on the top 25 did surprise me and I’m not proud that they made my top 25.
Maroon 5, Linkin Park, Nickelback and R.E.M. all showed up on my top 25. This is not necessarily a bad thing. I never download the explicit versions of music. But even then is what I am listening to God honoring?
I took a peek at my daughter’s top 25. She listens to the Jonas Brothers, Gabriella and Troy and Sharpay from High School Musical. I could question her taste in music but not what she normally listens to.
Your ears are just as close to your heart as your eyes are. Sometimes they need protection too.

I’m glad Covenant Eyes has been of help to you. If you know anyone else who may want to need a service like Covenant Eyes, I’d be happy to ship some free pamphlets to you for you to give out at your church. Please let me know!
