I told you previously that I was a doctor in the early 90’s. Yes it was on television only and I never got to really apply my trade. But I really have been a dentist.
On one of my short term mission trips to Kenya, we had a dentist or 2 with us and they would provide dental care in the villages that we were doing construction. It was typical to have 100-150 patients a day at the clinics and it was basically a “pull only” clinic. Without electricity it was difficult to do anything else.
I always told the dentist that I wanted to pull a tooth while I was there if the opportunity arose. One day we had a patient who had a rather routine extraction and my friend got the tooth to a point where a strong breeze could have taken it out. He explained to the patient that it was a really tough tooth and he needed to send for a specialist. I can only imagine what went through this guys head as I walked into the room with a construction belt around my waist and a hammer hanging off the side.
I kept my tool belt on and “suited up” with mask and gloves and proceeded to tell the patient that he was lucky I was not on the golf course that day and then extracted the tooth in about 2 seconds.
Here is a picture of the patient. All names and locations will not be disclosed to protect the innocent. So don’t even ask.
