Growing up in the Boston area, I had the opportunity to go to many Red Sox games. I even skipped school, took the subway to Kenmore Square, and attended numerous day games at Fenway Park. I used to do this in the late 70’s and early 80’s so at that time the “curse” was still on so while the team was usually good, they were not like the franchise is now where expectations are very high every year. They were like the Cubs are now – lovable losers.
I had a friend who worked security at Fenway Park and I could get in anytime I wanted to. One night game against the Royals, I was sitting in the upper deck behind home plate. The Royals were at bat and I used this time to visit the restroom. On my way back to my seat, a foul ball was hit by George Brett of the Royals and rolled right to my feet. I guess I could say that I never caught a foul ball but picked one up instead – hit by a Hall of Famer. And yes I still have that ball.
